Credit Card Fraud

I know about a scam that was very popular in Colombia some years ago and some banks have to change the customers’ debit and credit cards because too many people were lost a lot of money for this scam. The fraud was known as “exchangeable”. It was very simple, and for that reason many people lost their money. When the people were at a restaurant or bar, and they paid the bill whit their debit o credit card, the waitress o waiter (a con man or a con woman) took the card and he or she swiped it through the card reader. The trick was that it was a fake card machine. The thief swiped the customer´s card through a fake machine and it cloned the customer´s card. After that, the thief said to the customer that the machine wasn´t working well so he or she went by the real card machine. While the customer input the credit card number, the thief was looking and noting down the number. Finally, the client leaf the restaurant and the thief had the card copy and the card number. It was all that they needed for taking off all the money from the bank account. When the banks noticed that many customers was losing their money, the banks started to give to their clients different cards with a special chip that is impossible to clone. It made the thief´s job harder.
